RaceCoolers™ are the only product authorized to be manufactured from the actual tires used on the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Craftsman Truck and Busch series races.
RaceCoolers™ are manufactured by inserting an injection molded liner inside an actual used race tire, adding an Aluminum Diamond Plate rimmed base and drain plug and two metal handles to the sides. The result is a totally unique (no two are alike since each tire shows its own individual wear patterns) beverage cooler! It has a higher insulating factor than most commercially available coolers.
In keeping with the spirit of U.S. Stock Car Racing, each RaceCooler™ will be assembled entirely in the USA by Goodwill Industries.
Here are some of the RaceCoolers™ "Materials Manufacturing" factoids:
- The average time required to change all four tires during a pit stop is 12 to 15 seconds.
Each tire has to be capable of running at an average speed of 110 tp 200 mph.
Each tire costs over $600 when new.
A tire will be used for 55 to 70 miles on average.
Tires for all three series races (Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck) are identical in design and specifications.
Tire pressure is adjusted to ¼ lb increments depending upon track conditions, air temperature, etc.
During the course of a race, the rubber on the tires actually melts at times and will pick up small pieces of track debris which can be seen afterward embedded in its surface.
RaceCooler™ weigh 32 lbs without bottles and ice and can hold over 144 cans or 78 Long Neck bottles and 40lbs of ice. Many of the tires used still have the original pit crew grease pencil markings on them indicating the proper tire position on the vehicle (e.g. L/R, L/F), the pit stop on which it was changed and other information important to the crew. Some tires will also show the actual car number that it was used on.
